Titleist says its TS2 & TS3 drivers and woods deliver revolutionary speed and distance
When looking at the spectrum of golf equipment companies, you could perhaps call Titleist “traditional progressive” – if there were such a category.
Because, as a company rooted in tradition dating back all the way to 1932, there’s hardly an equipment manufacturer more foundational to the game of golf than Titleist.
Of course, tradition alone wouldn’t allow Titleist to continue forging ahead and thrive in an ever-changing industry that demands ingenuity to survive. The Titleist ball, after all – the gold standard in golf balls for decades – further solidified its industry-leading position with the revolutionary Pro V1 that altered the game (and length of golf courses) forever.
When it came to Titleist golf clubs, though, save for maybe the popular DCI irons of the 1990s and rise of Vokey wedges and Scotty Cameron putters in the 2000s to their prominence today, that same, “progressive” thinking which brought us the Pro V1 was lacking.
For the most part, Titleist had great feeling clubs. But others were beating them out in distance and forgiveness. At least, in the eyes of the consumer, which often makes perception reality when it comes to the bottom line of sales.
A new age for Titleist golf clubs with TS – the Titleist Speed Project
Considering the common perception that Titleist clubs didn’t go as far or were as easy to hit as other manufacturers’, they went back to the drawing board for their Titleist 917 replacement with one thing in mind: speed.
And after a “two-year mission to deconstruct the driver and then design greater speed into every detail,” as they explain it, the Titleist Speed Project has resulted in the Titleist TS2 & TS3 drivers and woods.
Maintaining that familiar, crisp feel Titleist woods are known for, the Titleist R&D team reworked every detail of weighting, materials and shape with TS to offer ball-speed-enhancing products that are their longest, most forgiving line of drivers and woods to date.
The two models break down as such:
TS2: A modern-shaped 460cc head that’s all about speed and forgiveness, with an adjustable swingweight and fixed CG location. TS2 has a slightly higher launch than TS3 and higher overall MOI. Driver is offered in lofts of 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degrees; fairways are offered in lofts of 13.5, 15, 16.5, 18 and 21 degrees.
TS3: A traditional-shaped 460cc head that’s still all about speed and forgiveness, but more attuned to adjustments and optimizing to the golfer’s exact needs. It has an adjustable swingweight and CG location, and launches lower than TS2 with less spin. Driver is offered in lofts of 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 degrees; fairways are offered in lofts of 13.5, 15, 16.5 and 18 degrees (left-handed in 15 and 16.5 degrees).
TS Woods Overview
Titleist Speed Project
As explained by Titleist: It began with a challenge from the game’s greatest players. A mission to solicit speed from every detail of the driver, embarked on by a collection of uniquely-gifted R&D minds. The “TS” project is a peerless pursuit of speed where every micron and milligram matter. Two letters that mark the way to the future of Titleist speed.
Titleist Speed Chassis
The result of a two-year mission to deconstruct the driver and then design greater speed into every detail. Available in two designs, each features:
Ultra-Thin Titanium Crown
The thinnest titanium crown in the game allows weight to be shifted lower and deeper
Thinner, Faster Face
Variable-thickness face delivers faster ball speeds and increased forgivenessEvery TS metal face is inspected to deliver the maximum allowable springlike effect (through a test called CT) for consistency with every single club manufactured
New Streamlined Shape
Reduces drag by 20 percent, increasing clubhead speed for more distance
Optimized Weight Distribution
Refined crown and face thicknesses create our lowest CG ever for higher launch and lower spin
